Below you will find a list of the electives offered at Fuller GT Magnet Elementary as part of the Fuller Falcon Band program as well as those electives that serve as good starter electives for younger students interested in joining the band.

Beginning Band (3^rd Only)

Introduction to band! This elective is for students who will begin playing a band instrument for the first time. Instruments offered include flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium and percussion. Percussion includes bells (with mallets) and snare drum. Emphasis will be on individual and group instruction. Attendance in concert performances is a required part of this elective.

Band I (4^th and 5^th)

Band II (4^th and 5^th)

This elective is by teacher recommendation only. Students must have successfully completed either Beginning Band or Band I. Other students with significant experience on a musical instrument may audition for this elective class. Instruments include flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium and percussion. Emphasis will be on individual and group instruction. Attendance in concert performances is a required part of this elective.

Percussion Ensemble (1^st and 2^nd)

This elective is intended for those first and second grade students who show interest in music. For many it will be an introduction to music before they begin band in third grade. This class will focus on learning to read and write music, both rhythmic notation and pitch notation. Students will learn the names of percussion instruments and learn how to play them correctly. Students will play music together as a percussion ensemble.

“ORFF”-ESTRA (1^st and 2^nd)

This elective is based on Carl Orff's unique approach to music. Students will be exposed to a variety of activities (singing, chanting rhymes, dancing, keeping a beat, and playing instruments) that will enhance their natural way of learning music. Keyboard instruments will be used to insure successful music experiences. "Orff”-estra introduces students to a lifetime of pleasure in music.
