Three for Me is a program that encourages
every parent or guardian to commit at least 3 hours of your time to our school.
Every act of service is important.
In addition, there are many opportunities to volunteer from home
Please
complete this Volunteer Form and return it to your child’s teacher or
to the office by Frequently Asked Questions
1.
I was surprised
there were so many volunteer needs. Don’t
our taxes pay for the schools?
YES,
public schools do receive funding from federal, state, and local tax bases but
unfortunately, there is never enough money to meet all the needs thus, making
volunteers vital to Fuller. When
you volunteer, you become an advocate for your child through sharing your time
and talents as well as receiving the opportunity to get to know the wonderful
Fuller staff who provides academic and character education for your children all
day.
2.
What kind of
qualifications do you need to volunteer and how do I know where to fit in?
The
only qualification you must have to volunteer at Fuller is the desire to join a
team ready to make a difference for our children and school.
You choose where to serve based on the skills, talents, and time that you
have – there is a place for everyone! Think
about what you like to do and match those talents with Fuller’s needs.
For instance, do you like to organize special events?
Fundraising may be for you! Are
you interested in getting to know the other parents in your child’s class?
Each class needs a room parent! Or do you love to cook and bake?
Hospitality is for you! The
opportunities sheet provides explanations for each area of service.
3.
My time is so
crunched right now, is there a place for me?
Absolutely! Look at the
listing of volunteer opportunities and pick which one fits your schedule.
There are opportunities for those who can serve weekly, monthly or just a
few hours each semester.
4.
I work full-time and/or
have younger children at home, how can I volunteer?
Again,
there is a place for everyone. Those
opportunities marked with a ** are ones that can be done from home or on the
weekends.
5.
I’ve been
reading about the new policy regarding registration for volunteers.
What does that mean?
Basically,
to protect the children, all adults volunteering in the school system must be
registered. You can do this by
completing a simple questionnaire on one of the school computers.
Volunteers who will deal directly with children may be subject to a
background check. Background checks
are conducted by the volunteer office of WCPSS and all results are kept in the
strictest confidence.
If
you have children in more than one WCPSS school, you only have to register once.
Please read the “official statement” from WCPSS that your child brought
home.
6.
The volunteer
sign-up form has a new question this year asking about employment.
How will this be used?
The
PTA would like to put together information regarding our parents’ employment
because many companies will pay the PTA for volunteer hours or will match
donations given by their employees. Also,
we’d like to know what companies are represented within our Fuller Family in
order to approach them for donations/support of upcoming events.
Obviously, any communication with your employer will be done after your
permission is granted.
7.
Besides feeling
great about myself, are there any other rewards from volunteering?
Yes,
the general PTA meetings will hold volunteer prize drawings, the Friday Falcon
will spotlight a “Volunteer of the Month” and a volunteer breakfast is held
each spring to “THANK YOU” for your commitment to our school.
None of these, though, compare to the look on your child’s face when
they know you’re interested in their school.
8.
I’m ready to
go, how do I get started?
Please
print out the volunteer sign-up form and return it
to school with your child. Based on the
choices you’ve made, a PTA Executive Committee member will then contact you
regarding your assignments.
